I love fried dough with powdered sugar on top, but we all know we should be eating that only once a year maybe! The next time you are craving it, try this quick, easy and healthy interpretation. Thank you Ellie Krieger! She has the most innovative yet healthy solutions. The original calls for powdered sugar but I used a simple sugar syrup to dip in using regular granulated sugar.
10 egg roll wrappers (or wonton wrappers)
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup water
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Cut the egg roll wrappers in half on the diagonal so you wind up with big triangles. Cut again in the middle to get smaller triangles. Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray. Place the triangles onto the baking sheet in a single layer.
Bake for about 10 minutes, until they are golden brown.
In the meanwhile, mix the sugar and water in pan and place it on medium heat. As soon as the sugar dissolves in the water shut the heat off and set aside. This is your simple syrup to put the “sticky” in the sticky crisps.
Immerse each golden crisp into this simple syrup and serve warm.
